I’ve gone back and forth about posting this video for the past few days.
Partly because, if I’m being honest, I hate marketing.
I’m good at sitting with people in hard moments. I’m good at conversations. Groups. Sessions. Writing. Podcast interviews. The actual work. But the moment I have to promote myself, something in me immediately starts cringing. It feels vulnerable and awkward.
But this is also my job. This is my business. And I do, in fact, need people to know I exist if I want to keep doing this work.
I was talking with my family about all of this, and my daughter finally looked at me and said:
“You like money, don’t you?”
Which honestly felt both ruthless and completely fair.
So yes. I need to market my work. I’m continually trying to grow my practice, my groups, my writing, my podcast, and the work I care deeply about. It’s a non-stop effort trying to reach more men who feel stuck in shame, disconnection, body hatred, perfectionism, or the exhausting feeling that they always need to fix themselves before they can fully live their lives.
I’m always looking for new ideas and professionals out there to help me with this effort. I know what I don’t know.
I asked Elizabeth Ayiku to help me with marketing, and the video you see is what she made. And I couldn’t love it more. honestly stunned me. Somehow, she captured the feeling of my work better than I probably could have explained it. The tone, the humanity, the tension, the humor, all of it feels incredibly true to who I am and how I approach this work.
So I’m posting it. Somewhat reluctantly. Slightly uncomfortable. But also genuinely proud of it.
If you’ve ever wondered what my work is about, this is probably the clearest representation of it I’ve put into the world.
And if it resonates with you, I’d love for you to watch it. Maybe even share it with someone else who might need it too.
Also, huge credit to Elizabeth for bringing this to life. Her work is incredible, and you can find it here: https://www.elizabethayiku.com/
